Duval shares the Fourth Judicial Circuit with Clay and Nassau. Of the counties covered on this site it has the most crowded circuit, which makes identifying your own county the necessary first step.
Ending Duval County probation early
Jacksonville's consolidated city-county government means that in everyday speech "Jacksonville" and "Duval County" are used more or less interchangeably. For most purposes that is harmless. For working out where a motion goes, it is worth being exact, because the surrounding counties are part of the same circuit but not the same county.
Someone sentenced in Clay who now lives in Jacksonville, or sentenced in Duval who now lives in Nassau, is in a circuit that covers both — and still has a case belonging to one specific county.
The Fourth Judicial Circuit
The Fourth Judicial Circuit covers three counties: Duval, Clay and Nassau. Jacksonville is the Duval County seat.
A three-county circuit is the most spread out arrangement among the counties on this site. Sharing a circuit does not pool the cases: your matter belongs to the county where sentence was imposed, and that is where a motion to end the term is filed.

The motion is filed in the existing criminal case in the sentencing court. In a circuit covering three counties, confirming the county on your judgment before filing is not a formality — a motion directed to the wrong county costs time that is difficult to recover.

Where a three-county circuit does make a practical difference is in records. Financial balances are held by the clerk of the county where sentence was imposed, so if you have moved within the circuit, that is not necessarily the clerk nearest you. For most everyday purposes yes, given the consolidated city-county government. For identifying your case, go by the county named on the judgment and sentence rather than by the city — particularly if any part of your history involves Clay or Nassau.
I was sentenced in Clay but live in Jacksonville. Does this page apply?
Only partly. You are in the same circuit, but your case is a Clay County matter and that is generally where a motion is filed. The general material on eligibility and process applies to you; the Duval-specific parts do not.
Which clerk holds my restitution balance?
Generally the clerk of the county where sentence was imposed, which within this circuit may not be the office nearest you. Get the figure in writing from the right one before filing.
I cross into Georgia regularly. Does that need permission?
